Exceptional Choices Inc. has developed the "Flush Dat" program in response to the growing need for effective conflict resolution skills among youth. Recognizing that conflict is a natural part of human interaction, this program aims to equip young individuals with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to handle conflicts constructively. The program targets adolescents aged 7-12, with two separate co-ed groups for ages 7-9 and ages 10-12, a critical developmental period for forming lifelong interpersonal skills.
Values –
The "Flush Dat" program is anchored in values that emphasize holistic development and effective conflict resolution. Central to these values is the empowerment of youth through knowledge, enhancing their emotional intelligence to better navigate interpersonal conflicts.
Program Structure –
"Flush Dat" is a comprehensive, six-week program consisting of 6 sessions per age group occurring once per week (the program allows for flexibility in scheduling). Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes (1 hour) per age group and is designed to be interactive, engaging, and reflective. The curriculum progresses from foundational concepts of conflict to more complex skills like negotiation and problem-solving.
Program Goals –
1. Equip participants with practical conflict resolution skills.
2. Enhance participants' emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
3. Foster effective communication and empathetic listening skills.
4. Promote understanding of oneself and others in conflict situations.
5. Build resilience and a positive approach to handling conflicts.
Strengths –
The most significant strength of the "Flush Dat: Youth Conflict Resolution Journey" program, provided by Exceptional Choices Inc., lies in its holistic approach to developing emotional intelligence (EI) alongside conflict resolution skills. This dual focus empowers participants not only with the practical tools needed for effective conflict management but also with a deeper understanding and control of their emotional responses, a crucial aspect often overlooked in traditional conflict resolution training.
Evaluation and Follow-Up -
Participants' progress is monitored through pre- and post-program surveys, weekly reflections, and feedback from facilitators. A scripted skit will occur after the program's conclusion to demonstrate comprehension of true conflict resolution.
Conflict resolution is an indispensable skill set that fosters healthier relationships, enhances communication, and promotes social cohesion. For youth, mastering conflict resolution techniques early on can profoundly impact their personal and professional lives, shaping them into empathetic, resilient, and socially responsible individuals.
